A partial regression plot (also called an added-variable plot) is a scatter plot that visualizes the marginal relationship between a single predictor and the response in a multiple regression model, after removing the linear effects of all other predictors. It is constructed by computing two residual quantities: (1) the residuals of the response variable regressed on all predictors except the one of interest, and (2) the residuals of that predictor regressed on all remaining predictors. Plotting the first against the second, the slope of the ordinary least squares line through the points equals the coefficient of that predictor in the full model. The plot reveals nonlinearity, heteroscedasticity, outliers, and the strength and direction of the adjusted relationship.
