A sampling distribution is the probability distribution of a statistic (such as the mean, variance, or proportion) obtained by repeatedly drawing random samples of a fixed size from a population. It describes how the value of the statistic varies across all possible samples of that size. The sampling distribution of the sample mean, for example, is centered at the population mean and has standard error equal to the population standard deviation divided by the square root of the sample size. Sampling distributions form the theoretical foundation for confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and prediction intervals. Entry is 'sampling' but definition defines 'sampling distribution' (probability distribution of a statistic). These are different concepts. Sampling is the act/method of selecting observations; sampling distribution is the theoretical distribution of a statistic over repeated samples. The definition carves for the wrong entry.

The definition is for 'sampling distribution', not 'sampling'. Sampling is the act/procedure of selecting a subset from a population. The definition describes the probability distribution of a statistic over repeated samples — that is the sampling DISTRIBUTION, a different concept. Law 4: the definition does not carve the target entry.

Entry is "sampling" but the definition body defines "sampling distribution." Law 11d sense mismatch — the definition defines a different concept than the entry name.

This is a definition of 'sampling distribution', not 'sampling'. The body describes the probability distribution of a statistic obtained from repeated samples. Sampling is the process of selecting a subset from a population — a procedure, not a distribution. The definition defines a different (though related) construct. Law 4: it fails to carve the entry it claims to define.
