An anti-aliasing filter is a low-pass signal-processing circuit or algorithm applied before the sampling stage of an analog-to-digital conversion. It attenuates frequency components above the Nyquist frequency (half the sampling rate) to prevent higher-frequency signals from folding back into the baseband as aliasing artifacts. Its design specifies a cutoff frequency at or below the Nyquist limit and a roll-off steepness sufficient to suppress out-of-band content to below the quantization noise floor.
